Program Description:

Antioch University New England’s Department of Applied Psychology programs emphasize a personal and professional commitment to social justice for all. Meticulous programs combine theory with practice, placing value on academic excellence and practical clinical experience. Antioch's emphasis on social responsibility guides students to work with a vision of their local and global community in mind, using their academic knowledge and newfound experiences to enrich the world around them. Antioch University New England is famous for schooling many of the best mental health professionals in New England as well as in the country.

The University's rigorous programs in Applied Psychology provide students with the opportunity to develop a unique professional style while learning clinical skills. Their Doctorate in Psychology program encourages students to take a self-reflective approach in integrating academic knowledge with clinical experience. Professional faculty are available to assist and evaluate students' academic and clinical work while offering both mentorship and engaging them as colleagues.

The Doctorate of Psychology is typically a four year program, with the first year being the most intensive in terms of schedule. As the course progresses into other years, students spend less time in the traditional academic setting, becoming progressively more involved in hands-on and practical applications of their studies. Some students also choose to supplement their later years in the program with other courses. The focus of the fourth year is to complete the dissertation and become a clinical pyschologist. After the fourth year has been completed, a number of students choose to participate in internship programs, though this is not required.

Programs offered include:

  • Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

  • Master of Arts in Dance/Movement Therapy

  • Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy

  • PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy

  • Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders

  • Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis
