Male Depression and Hidden Emotions

This continuing education course for therapists will focus on male depression and underlying hidden emotions such as shame, anger, and fear. Many men perceive depression as a sign of weakness and struggle to ask for help.

In this 2-hour continuion education webinar, Dr. Philip Feldman, LCSW will reivew depression impacting men as well as additional topics such as low self-esteem, grandiosity, gender differences, addictive behaviors, aggressive behaviors, and repressed emotions. Dr. Feldman will also explore depressive symptoms in men with Antisocial and Borderline Personality Disorders. He will review clinical research and case examples with targeted interventions.

This introductory continuing education webinar is designed to help mental health professionals:

  1. Name primary and secondary emotions correlated with depression and specific addictive behaviors related to depression.
  2. Describe differences and similarities of how men and women respond to depressive symptoms.
  3. Recall research results on depression, aggressive behavior, and suicide rates.

Statement of program material's accuracy, utility, and risks: This program presents empirically-validated interventions to address male depression and addictive disorders. It is consistent with the ethics code of the National Association of Social Work (NASW) and the American Psychological Association (APA). A significant body of research suggests that these methods are effective and safe when properly applied. There are no known contraindications for this modality. A list of references supporting the course content will be provided to participants.

Philip Feldman, PhD, LCSW

Philip Feldman, PhD, LCSW

Dr. Phil Feldman has 35 years of experience as a Clinical Director, Psychotherapist, and Supervisor. He is currently the Clinical Director at Journey to Wellness substance abuse program in New Jersey.

Dr. Feldman has taught numerous clinical topics as a Senior Lecturer at Rutgers University MSW Program since 1995. As a professional speaker, he has presented more than 350 Clinical Seminars. In addition, he is the author of:

Dr. Feldman completed his PhD at Rutgers University, MSW at Yeshiva University, and BA at Emory College.
