I hear a lot of practice owners tell me they don’t need to have a marketing process in place when they take insurance, and I couldn’t disagree more. Why would you want to have a marketing process for your insurance-based practice? There are quite a few reasons I can think of, but let’s just start with the easy reasons...
1. Creating a marketing process for your insurance-based practice will help you attract your ideal clients. I get it, we all like a little variety, but attracting your ideal client means you get to choose the clients you want to work with rather than just accepting whoever comes along.
2. It lets you narrow your focus on what you need to best serve your ideal clients. Rather than chase every certification known to humanity about therapy, let’s take a step back and figure out what will best serve the people we want to work with. That way we can focus on getting good at it rather than having a list of certifications that mean little. When we are attracting those people through a marketing process, we can narrow what we need and focus on quality rather than quantity.
3. It helps prevent burnout. Why is this important? Burnout is a huge challenge in the mental health industry. When you work with people who excite you and energize you, it helps you from feeling overwhelmed and getting burned out. I have seen so many therapists leave this industry over the last 10 years because they end up burning out with the work.
