Telehealth and COVID-19: Staying Compliant When Your Therapy Office Is Your Home

Presented by Tiffany Chhuom, MPH, MSW on 04-15-2020 at 9 a.m. Pacific to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

The COVID-19 pandemic and response has prompted industry-wide increases in teletherapy services to maintain safety and meet the needs of clients. Many mental health clinicians are significantly expanding their telehealth practice (including working from home) and/or offering telehealth sessions for the first time. Attend this 2-hour continuing education webinar to understand how to provide continued care amid the COVID-19 pandemic or other extenuating circumstances that may arise. Utilizing the right devices, policies, and practices for teletherapy services, you can limit risk and maintain ethical practice when providing remote services, even from your home office.

Why mental health providers should attend:

  • During the pandemic, are you working from home in contrast to a traditional office?
  • Are you able to access the same technology/software at home that you had in your office?
  • Is this your first time trying out phone and video therapy?

If you are a mental health clinician trying to navigate these changes alone during COVID-19, you may be feeling overwhelmed. In this webinar, Tiffany Chhuom, MPH will cover solutions to help you confidently maintain confidentiality and assure you that you are not alone. Mrs. Chhuom will also answer participant questions during the live webinar's question-and-answer periods.

This introductory instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Discuss the new federal guidelines (from March 2020) for phone and video therapy.
  2. List steps to prepare therapy clients for the day-to-day challenges that may come with remote treatment.
  3. Identify specific criteria to choose the right software for electronic communication, with coworkers and with clients.
  4. Establish a security protocol to ensure security safeguards of client information while working from home.
  5. Describe essential topics clinicians will need to add to client consent forms for teletherapy.
  6. Outline a HIPAA-required policy for the addition of teletherapy in one's practice.
