Herndon is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia. It covers 4 square miles. Residents named the town after Commander William Lewis Herndon, who saved 149 people from a shipwreck. The town was incorporated in 1879.

Herndon has a population of 25,000 people. Around 72% of the town’s residents are United States citizens, compared to 93% of people nationwide. Roughly 1,100 military veterans live in Herndon.

Over 41% of people in Herndon were born in a foreign country. The town’s racial composition is 36% Hispanic, 33% white, 18% Asian, and 9% black. Nearly 55% of residents have a native language that is not English. Herndon is home to 7,400 Spanish speakers and 700 Urdu speakers.
