My Approach to Helping
When most people enter my office, I find that the first thing they want to do is tell me their story. How they ended up here. This moment, whether it's with an individual or couple, is what makes me passionate about my work. Most people seek help because they have struggled with problems for a long time, or they are dealing with changes that are challenging and scary. My role as a therapist is help you begin the process of change by thinking about your story in new ways; ways that feel hopeful and positive. Using evidence-based approaches in my work, I focus on understanding the symptoms that are causing your distress, the motivation for change, and work to set clear goals. Whether I'm working with you as an individual or couple, my hope is to help change the thinking, behaviors, and emotions so that you can live a more happy and balanced life.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
My practice is referred to as The Couple's Place because my primary passion is to help you create the best relationship possible. After nearly 25-years in the field, I truly believe that improving your core relationship does more for achieving happiness and balance than just about anything else. I have been trained in such evidence-based methods as Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, but I will assess your case individually and integrate the best interventions and methods. I also enjoy working with individual adults dealing with life-changes, depression, bipolar, relationship challenges, and sexual addiction. I am in the process of being trained in EMDR, one of the most effective ways of treating trauma.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
Psychotherapy, more than anything, helps you understand and define your experiences. While different methods might get you there in different ways, most people seek therapy to change something that is making them unhappy. This unhappiness might get played out in unhealthy behaviors, changes in mood, greater anxiety, and more conflict in your life. Using the right interventions and your own desire to feel better, we can work to make measurable changes in your life.
