My Approach to Helping

Pronouns: they, them, theirs
In my practice, I utilize both narrative therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy approaches as needed. Through narrative approaches, I will seek to understand what is important to you and support you in realizing and remembering your unique strengths, skills, and successes that may have gone unnoticed or forgotten. I will commit to listening intently, offering curiosity, and empowering you to reclaim your joy, values, and hopes from the harm you may have experienced. Through EMDR approaches, I will guide you through drawing upon your internal capacity to heal from past hurts and move closer to living the life you want to live in the present.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

We are often influenced by social, cultural, and political beliefs that teach us to internalize problems without acknowledging the environments that allow them to exist and do harm. Therapy can be a space that empowers you to explore, reflect on, and respond to your experiences in a way that is helpful and meaningful to you. I believe that therapy is most impactful when it is affirming, non-blaming and seeks to view people as people and problems as problems.

Groups I Work With

I work with LGBTQIA+ folks who are struggling with the harmful effects of a range of problems including gender dysphoria, depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, grief and loss, self-harm, and challenges within relationships. I recognize that these problems can be uniquely harmful to the LGBTQIA+ community, as they can often occur as a result of or in addition to homophobia and transphobia.
