My Approach to Helping
My name is Andrea Graziano, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I work with adults to help ameliorate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and relationship issues using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy.
My approach to providing therapy is to develop a mutually respectful relationship and help guide you toward your goals. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy lend themselves to allowing for personal growth and self-expression while challenging negative and self-destructive thoughts.
I have found that adults grappling with anxiety, depression, and relationship issues feel empowered when they are able to shed old thoughts and habits. Clients feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook as a result of building new skills.
My communication style is to be open and non-judgmental. I tend to use humor to reflect a comfortable and personable environment. Ultimately, the tone of our sessions will reflect calmness, compassion, and encouragement.
My journey to becoming a therapist started a little later in life than most. I have been drawn to helping others for many years, including volunteering, mentoring, and helping people through difficult times. It is rewarding to assist someone in becoming the best version of themselves.
Goal setting is a collaborative approach to working toward the results you'd like to achieve in therapy. This can be accomplished through building skills, developing habits, and tracking progress during our time together.
In our first session, we will start to develop a connection and get a sense of what direction to take. You can expect to spend time talking about yourself, the way you're feeling now, and how you'd like to feel instead. I will ask some questions to get a better understanding of the situation because I recognize you are the expert about yourself.
