My Approach to Helping

Hi, it's good to see you. Asking for and finding support is difficult, but this is the first step. Good work. Do you find it difficult to stay motivated throughout the day? Are you constantly ruminating on interactions with others, anxious about whether you said or did the "right" thing? Perhaps you spend most of your time and energy worrying about how others perceive you? Do you struggle to feel deserving or "good enough"? Or, perhaps your queerness has left you feeling "broken" or "wrong"? If you identify as a perfectionist, people-pleaser, over-thinker, or fear being rejected or abandoned by those around you, therapy can help you.

My approach to therapy is relational, collaborative, and draws upon narrative, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), inner childparts work, somatic work, and mindfulness interventions. I am LGBTQ+ affirmative, sex/kink positive, neurodiversity-affirming, polyCNM-affirming, practice from a Health at Every Size lens, and use "geek therapy" when appropriate. There is no "How To Therapy" book and it's my belief that everyone needs support in their lives. Our mental health does not exist within a vacuum: it is influenced by everyone and everything around us and our context and communities become vital in the process. Perhaps together, we can begin to unravel the threads of your experience and co-author your story.

My Role as a Therapist

As a therapist, I understand that I am not an expert on my clients' lives, and our relationship is built upon the realities and experiences we both bring to the table. Our similarities and differences can shape the dynamic of our therapy sessions, but these can also lead to opportunities for growth. Growth, change, and evolution can be embraced through a collaborative therapeutic relationship and through our work together, conflict can be a catalyst for positive change.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Taking the first step to seek support can be difficult and it's understandable to feel like you've failed or that you regret not living life the way you wanted to. Therapy is a challenging journey of self-discovery and introspection and there?s no right or wrong way to do it. The best results come from being committed to the process and embracing the discomfort that may arise from it, while remembering that change always involves risk. Know that you made the brave decision to prioritize yourself and perhaps we can work together to help you achieve growth and self-improvement.
