My Approach to Helping
I work to help individual adults and teens, couples, and families navigate current obstacles, relationship difficulties, and unresolved emotional needs. Our work together can treat symptoms related to grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, and addiction. My training includes an emphasis on clients' experiences within family, work, and other social systems. In my work with families, I have particular experience with eldercare, caregiver burnout, "sandwich generation" issues, and failure to launch. I offer mobile, at-home, and video sessions for clients limited to their residence, assisted living, or retirement community due to medical issues, aging or impairment.
I approach therapy from a humanistic perspective and utilize psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness interventions. In my work with couples and families I employ a systemic and strength-based approach, including Gottman and communication skills-building. I am Prepare-Enrich certified and offer premarital, marital, and discernment counseling.
My work with clients ranges in length of therapy. In brief cases, our emphasis may be reachable solutions, skills development, and clients' existing strengths and resources. In those requiring a longer process, clients can address and resolve longstanding inner needs and conflicts, through insight-oriented, relational, and emotionally focused perspectives.
I am a Washington, DC native. I received my masters degree in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland, College Park.
