My Approach to Helping
My name is Angie Lewis and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with people ages 15-99 and specialize in working with people who don’t feel they are living their best life. I also work with co-occurring disorders. This involves the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder. The main therapeutic approaches I utilize are Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Reality Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. However, I vary techniques based on the needs of each client. I am fascinated by psychological research and use clinically sound techniques and interventions as well as psychoeducation to improve change potential.
My counseling style is a good fit for teens and adults who struggle with overthinking about life and relationships. This can cause anxiety and depression or a sense of existing but not really living a life. Disruption in sleep patterns, a lack of self-care and being “too nice” for your own good are symptoms my clients often identify. My communication style is genuine, non-judgmental and respectful. I want my clients to be comfortable talking with me about anything and know that I will provide authentic, open-minded feedback. I actively seek to provide understanding, trust and a supportive atmosphere for open and honest conversation.
I have known from a young age that I wanted to be a therapist. I am genuinely interested in people’s life stories, their motivations and their thoughts. I possess a strong interest in psychology and human behavior and I want to help make people’s lives more peaceful and gratifying. Goal setting is an ongoing, collaborative process in my therapeutic approach. What we begin working on might change as insight and clarity are achieved. Frequent discussions will happen to make sure we stay on the same page in regard to therapeutic focus.
The first session will primarily be spent talking about what led to you seeking help, building a therapeutic connection and identifying what you ultimately want to achieve. I seek to listen and understand you and your goals so I know what will work best for you moving forward.
