My Approach to Helping
Greetings! My name is Ann. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who is driven to help my clients overcome obstacles of everyday life while bringing them to a place of hope and healing.
Inspired by Rogers all those years ago in graduate school, my approach has always been person-centered while utilizing CBT interventions and occasional strength-based strategies in therapy. I have found these approaches to be most effective in moving people forward in the therapeutic process.
My specific interest is working with clients who are having difficulties managing life's challenges, particularly in their careers, higher education, or within their relationships.
Once in treatment, I create a safe space where you can be open and vulnerable with no judgment! Through empathy, some light humor, transparency, and accountability, I will meet you where you are and lead you toward success.
My career as a therapist actually began in teaching after gaining my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. While working with the students, I found myself drawn to meet the emotional needs of the individual rather than the class's needs. This is where the shift in my career took place. I eventually went on to obtain my Master's Degree in Counseling, followed by my License in Mental Health Counseling. Seeing people realize hope in the face of adversity is one of the greatest rewards of becoming a therapist.
Whatever your goals, I will be here to encourage you to develop skills and strategies to help on your journey toward success. However, experiencing change can be a process, so it is important that we acknowledge each accomplishment, whether great or small, every step of the way.
During our first session, we will take the time to get to know each other. You will get the opportunity to share your reasons for coming to therapy, and together, we will create a plan that focuses on achieving your goals.
