My Approach to Helping
I believe therapy should be practical and actionable to help you get the best results and achieve positive lasting change as quickly as possible. As a client-centered therapist, I work collaboratively and offer an individualized approach to meet clients where they're at in their personal growth journey. My services are evidence- (i.e., science) based, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, mindful, integrative, and compassionate.
Having been practicing for over 11 years, I have expertise in mental health, ADHD, trauma, attachment, addiction, acquired brain injury, and mindfulness-based practices. My therapeutic approach is informed by Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy (inner child parts work), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), ADHD coaching, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Gottman Couple's Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy, among other modalities. I am additionally certified as a Kundalini yoga instructor and have completed extensive research and clinical work with Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, which is a gentle approach that emphasizes the health benefits associated with cultivating deeper awareness in the present moment through grounding, relaxation training, meditative exercises, and mindfulness more generally.
My work is inspired by interpersonal neurobiology and the science of neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain's potential for flexibility, learning, adaptability, and healing. I tend to integrate scientific information (psychoeducation) about human psychology, such as brain, and body functioning to help clients make sense of their experiences and see their challenges from a normalizing, non-judgmental, compassionate view. Many clients find this information to be very helpful, hopeful, and empowering, as it gives us a holistic roadmap for resolving their issues.
