My Approach to Helping

My approach to therapy involves integrating psychological, counseling, and social work theories to provide the client with an individualized therapeutic experience. I utilize systems theory, a strengths perspective, and an integrative counseling approach that combines a variety of evidence-based intervention strategies to facilitate growth and healing. As a clinical social worker, I am trained to work with all fundamental issues prevalent to most individuals, such as coping skills, conflict resolution, life transitions, and grief and loss. I have specialized my practice beyond this training to include depression, relationship issues, suicidal ideation.

The most common therapeutic approaches I use are client-centered approach, strengths-based perspective, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), solution-focused, trauma-focused, relational, acceptance and commitment (ACT), and reality therapy. I also use Christian and faith-based counseling when requested to facilitate growth, healing, and for improved functioning.

I work predominantly with women, as individuals, females, 15 years old and up. I treat conditions including depression, relationship issues, young adult and women’s issues; improving coping skills, stress management, life transitions, domestic violence, self-esteem, divorce, grief, anxiety, bipolar disorders, militaryfamily issues, and a variety of other issues. I also specialize in providing therapy to individuals experiencing a variety of acute emotional distress, including suicidal ideation, self-harming issues, trauma from abuse, sexual assault, and other extreme psychosocial stressors. I also have many years of experience with adults, especially young adults with collegecareer issues and life transitions.

As a therapist, I provide an authentic, honest, encouraging, and supportive environment that is centered on the client’s goals. In sessions, I work to help clients find the balance to recognize what is and what is not working in their lives and give them new tools and strategies to engage in relationships and circumstances differently to achieve the life they want. This can include healing from painful experiences, gaining new knowledge and insight, or understanding how their own thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behavioral patterns are enhancing or interfering with successful relationships.

I am passionate about providing needed support and tools to those who are hurting in order to alleviate psychological and emotional pain and suffering. I believe in the therapeutic process that allows me to walk alongside individuals who are hurting to help provide authentic healing and a life they are joyful to engage in again.

I approach goal-setting with clients after actively listening to their needs and the life experiences they share that brought them into therapy. I then work with the client to formulate what they believe are the areas they want to improve upon or what needs can be addressed through work in therapy.

During the first session I ask the client to share with me their reasons that brought them into therapy, a brief gathering of background information, and address any specific urgentcritical needs that need immediate attention. We also begin goal formulation, review HIPPA policy, and the importance of honesty in therapeutic work.
