My Approach to Helping
Do you notice repetitive patterns of thoughts, feelings, or actions in your life that cause distress? Does your “best you” feel fleetingly accessible, if at all? As a therapist, my job is to create a therapeutic space for you to experience both the absence of judgment and presence of unconditional acceptance as your journey evolves. As a client, your job is to continue to invest in understanding yourself better and extending curiosity to your innermost parts. Together, we will collaborate with curiosity and compassion to investigate and appreciate the challenges, insights, and triumphs of your ongoing story.
Using a strengths-based framework, we’ll work to recognize, explore, and dismantle patterns that cause distress while also sorting through your existing “toolkit” for handling distress to determine what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s missing. My philosophy on therapy is entirely client-centered, recognizing that you are the expert of your experience and that, through our work, we can strengthen your internal power and build skills that improve self-efficacy. It’s important that our work speaks to the way you think and feel, so I am happy to discuss how we can integrate additional perspectives and modalities for tailored care.
American culture tends to see therapy in a way that emphasizes the heavy and dark sides of emotion, but therapy is a lot of things including joyful, silly, and sometimes entirely ridiculous! Where humor and levity can be found, let’s appreciate them together.
