My Approach to Helping
Hello. My name is Barbara Phillips, and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Georgia. I have 23 years of experience working in the mental health field. My experience includes treating clients who need help with anxiety, depression. stress management, anger management, grief management, and self-esteem. issue
I use a client-centered approach with my clients. I strive to create an environment in which my clients feel safe and comfortable working with me. The most common theoretical approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focus, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). However, the theoretical approach I use will depend on which one works best for my clients. I work with adults 18 years old to 90 years old. The conditions I feel comfortable treating include anxiety, depression, stress management, anger management, grief, and self-esteem issues.
I strive to create an environment where my clients feel comfortable talking with me. I actively listen to what my clients tell me and validate their feelings. I have had people who helped me get through challenges I was facing in my life, and this inspired me to become a therapist. My faith in God has also given me the desire to help others. I believe that God places people in our lives to help us. I get great satisfaction from helping my clients get through challenges and live a happy life.
My approach to goal setting with clients is to help them set the goals they want to achieve and to provide them with ongoing support. I strive to make clients feel comfortable during the first session with me. I get information from them that will help me to know how best to help them. Future sessions will be scheduled for the clients if they feel that I am a good match for them.
