My Approach to Helping

Hello! My name is Lina. I am a Hispanic mom from Texas to 3 young adults and a marriage veteran of 20 yrs. My family and I have lived in South Carolina for nearly 4 yrs. where I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate with a primary focus of sex and relationship therapy. I possess a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in systemic sex therapy and I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Clinical Sexology. What is sex therapy? It is purely talk therapy between me and each partner in the relationship.
Most therapists address your mental health issues and their impact. Sex therapists address your sexualrelationship issues when they are impacting, and being impacted by the various issues in your life. I have a deep understanding of how sexual issues can impact all aspects of your life, including your self worth, but that of your partner's as well.
I develop a treatment approach based on the needs of each client. I am trained in a variety of methods including the use of tarot cards in therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) which is capable of being adapted to reduce any distressing thoughts, feelings, andor behaviors that may be impacting your relationships. Call me today! I look forward to working with you to strengthen your relationship with intimacy, communication, & trust.

More Info About My Practice

I have evening hours available most days and I am willing to explore appointments via telehealth on some weekends.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

As a therapist, I am not able to prescribe medication and thus, I do not believe in diagnosing clients. The DSM, which is manual published for the use of diagnosing clients, is very controversial, and in my opinion, perpetuates the pathologization of clients. I prefer to take a strength-based approach and work with each unique client on their preferred goals vs the symptomology of any previously diagnosed disorders.
