My Approach to Helping
Welcome, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. I have been helping individuals and families for over 20 years. I have extensive experience addressing stress, relationships, anxiety, depression and trauma. Therapy with me is designed to address your unique needs through an Eclectic approach.
I am an Eclectic counselor which means I draw techniques from multiple evidence-based models to develop individualized treatment for you. The most common approach I use are Person Centered, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy and Bibliotherapy.
I typically work with children ages 5-11 and adults ages 17+. Regardless of the presenting condition, I believe that the development of a collaborative therapeutic relationship is essential for favorable outcomes in therapy. I am comfortable working with developmental life adjustments, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and behavioral problems.
Beginning with the first session, I create an inviting and accepting atmosphere designed to alleviate the anxiety often associated with the counseling process. I stress the collaborative nature of therapy and explain my role in supporting, encouraging and challenging them toward attainment of their individually established goals.
I was attracted to becoming a therapist through my own struggles as an adolescent. I realized the importance of having a counselor I could share my concerns with who was genuinely interested in my success. My passion comes from supporting others in their own life journey as I witness positive growth and change.
I address goal setting at the initial session and throughout the course of therapy. Treatment goals are developed collaboratively based upon the expressed needs of the client. It is my responsibility to develop treatment strategies and tools designed to help them achieve those stated goals.
In the first session a client can expect to be greeted with a warm smile and someone who is genuinely interested in their concerns. I strive to balance getting to know them as a person while simultaneously establishing their reason(s) for seeking treatment. It is explained that counseling is a journey and they determine what to share about themselves at their own pace.
