My Approach to Helping
My name is Ben Bookie, and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Michigan. My approach to therapy is person-centered and eclectic, as we work together to discover what works best for you. Among the areas in which I focus are anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, men's issues, and life changes.
I utilize many approaches to therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) -informed, cognitive processing therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
I work with a wide range of people and conditions. I focus on areas including anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, men's issues, and life changes. I also have experience treating personality disorders and attachment issues.
In sessions, I seek to be authentic and personable. I will work with you to create a safe and relaxing environment.
I have wanted to be a therapist since I was in the ninth grade. Immediately after completing my undergraduate degree, I worked in a transitional living program with juveniles in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. This eventually led me to working in the children's services field with the State of Michigan. I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling in 2015 and have worked in private practice, with community mental health, and in the prison system. I am curious about people and love coming alongside others as they work to heal wounds and to create the life they want.
Therapy is for you and about you. We will create goals together and you are in control of what you want to work on.
Many of us are anxious during the first session with a therapist. While we may spend time discussing what brought you to therapy and what you hope to get out of it, we will also work on building our therapeutic relationship.
