My Approach to Helping

Good therapy is all about making connections and building personal awareness. Everyone gets stuck sometimes! Most people at some point find themselves feeling unmotivated, uninspired, isolated, or even completely lost. During times of struggle and overwhelm having another mind to help you think and make meaning within a safe and non-judgemental space can be the key to moving forward. My therapeutic approach is warm, engaged, and non-directive. By listening deeply I strive to meet each person where they are and to help make meaningful links between past and present with an eye toward decreasing emotional and psychological suffering. I love my work as a therapist and I have the utmost respect for every person who entrusts me to do this very important work with them. It is an honor to hold my clients histories, stories, vulnerabilities, and strengths. I am continually awed by the courage and resilience of the human spirit and am grateful to witness these qualities in my clients everyday within a therapeutic context.

Groups I Work With

I particularly enjoy working with people who are about to embark upon or are in the midst of a major life transitions. These transitions vary in magnitude, can be self-initiated and long awaited for or mandated by unfortunate circumstances and therefore unwelcome outside of ones control. I have found that all transitions no matter the magnitude contain both gain and loss and with intention and insight provide us with great opportunities to shift our identities and perspectives in positive ways. I have a strong interest and affinity for working with individuals struggling with issues related to gender andor sexuality. I particularly enjoy working with creative thinkers, non-conformists, and artists. Individuals who have managed to carve out a unique space for themselves but are finding it difficult to hold onto and grow this creative space amidst daily life pressures and ever increasing demands to dive into the mainstream. My clients often come to me feeling alienated, isolated, and disconnected for various reasons and to varying degrees. I work hard to understand where my patients have been and how they have evolved to where they are and help each of them to think through their underlying motivations, drives, and to connect with their desire and purpose. Instead of making assumptions and moving forward quickly I am as authentically curious and genuinely interested as possible in the hopes that you too will become curious and interested in your own internal world. I believe that the greatest therapeutic change agent is connection. It all starts with connection and when we connect deeply with another human mind we begin to evolve and grow our ideas of ourselves, others, our communities, and the world. Change makes us feel vulnerable and this vulnerability takes courage! The best therapy provides the space to engage in the courageous work of getting to know, accept, and build compassion for oneself. To embrace the unique individual human being that you were historically, that you are currently, and that you continue to become throughout life. We are always shifting, changing, and evolving. Therapy gives us a shot at better directing these inevitable shifts and changes allowing us to evolve in healthier and more personally comfortable ways.
