My Approach to Helping
When working with clients I prefer to take the client's lead in a person-centered approach. I utilize a variety of approaches depending on the client's specific needs most frequently utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, existential therapy, motivational interviewing, strengths-based, positive psychology, and systems-focused approaches.
I offer a relaxing and quiet environment with flexible hours. I tend to be a low-key and open-minded person. Sessions start with an initial assessment where we will discuss your immediate concerns and the history of your symptoms to provide greater context to you as a person within your environment. In the second session, we will spend some time identifying the specific goals you have for your time in therapy and discussing of diagnosis rationale so that you understand how your specific symptoms and experiences apply to the criteria outlined in the DSM-5. After this session, the work begins and you're at the wheel to turn in any direction you'd like, you're the expert in your life.
