My Approach to Helping
My therapeutic approach is curious, compassionate, and collaborative. I listen closely to what you are feeling and offer nuanced feedback to help you open up and explore. I offer a non-judgmental and affirming space where you can be seen for who you are and develop a more cohesive self. When you share your experiences, I don’t tell you that you are thinking or feeling the wrong way. Rather, we work together to understand why you may think and feel as you do, and what purpose your thoughts and feelings might serve. We will explore how past experiences might impact your current situation, to better understand how formerly adaptive strategies might now be keeping you stuck. We will also look at what is happening between us, in the present, as a guide to your experiences in your important relationships.
As you develop a deeper appreciation for who you are and how your mind works, you may find that you no longer need the old protective strategies that were preventing healthy growth and change. You will feel freer to be you, and more emboldened to make different choices.
