*** Several companies like BCBS, CIGNA, and HUMANA DO WAIVE DEDUCTIBLE FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH. SO EVEN IF MEDICAL DEDUCTIBLE IS $3,000, there is only a session co-pay. Call and ask as it may not state so on insurance card, or even the website.
**** No matter what state BCBS insurance is from I can accept it and process via Arizona.

My Approach to Helping

As a psychotherapist for 4 decades, I recognize how vital it is to honor each client as an individual and to show that client how to recognize and reveal thoughts and emotions. Clear communication with others is essential. Feelings and events impact us in such drastic ways. Knowledge of the "pause" and respect towards destiny are essential. I include and invite any immediate or non family members who are intricately involved in the client's life. Transparency, negotiation, and acceptance are key therapeutic words. One's reaction to life events is a choice. Whether in the mind, emotions, or spirit, everything is possible.

I work with children over the of age 8, or younger if the issues are related to other family members ie. Discipline. The populations I serve are: children, adolescent, family, and marital counseling. Some specialty issues I help are grief and sorrow, disability, sexuality, and the connection between physical and mental health. Ie. Diabetes can be spurred on by sorrow. Therapy modalities that I use include Gestalt, Adlerian, EMDR, Christian, Hypnosis, and Family Systems Therapy. I, also, give homework, whether behavioral, written, or reading assignments, that a client can do outside the session. In my experience mere talk is not enough and the client needs to practice and experience changes outside the therapy session.

Because I feel a therapist should not interfere but enhance an individual or family's life I am willing to schedule extended hours: weekday afternoon and evening, plus some Saturday morning appointments. For no additional charge. Good thing I am a night owl!
I do 'in person' therapy. I only do Telehealth when my client is already established in therapy with me and is out of town or ill. I do not believe deep issues or complex techniques can be effective in any way but in person. Being a solo practitioner my work was not diminished by the pandemic so it might be necessary to make an appointment a few weeks in advance.
I, also, am available to all my clients on an emergency basis.

More Info About My Practice

I have a free standing office built next to my home in central Tucson near the University with easy access to the I10 freeway. Clients may drive from Vail, Sahuarita, Marana, Catalina, and Oro Valley and arrive in between 20-30 minutes. Some even travel from Nogales, Phoenix, or Sierra Vista. I do weekday afternoon evening appointments and some Saturday mornings. Clients may contact me by phone or e-mail in order to discuss initial therapy issues and arrange an appointment. Most referrals and clients begin sessions for a minimum of 1 to 2 times per week or more frequently if it is an urgent. Clients know that I can be reached by phone if urgent or may see me for an urgent session within 24 hours. Sessions are 45-50 min. in length. Longer sessions of 60 min. or more are available depending upon the situation and the client.
I am available for appointments from approximately 10 AM in the morning to 8 PM during the weekdays. I can schedule Saturday appointments, as well. My goal is to not interfere in the client's work schedule or home environment. That would just be creating an more chaos!

I am bilingual in Spanish. Most clients just need to bring their insurance card and co-payment for the initial visit. I accept cash, money order, or personal check. And yes, I can accept HSA, credit, debit cards with the Square card reader!

My fee is based on insurance or self pay. I accept most insurances. If I am not a contracted provider with a particular insurance company most insurances do pay for out of network therapists, as well.
