My Approach to Helping
I take a holistic and strength-based approach to therapy, working with both children and adults. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and play therapy as core interventions. Additionally, I incorporate positive psychology techniques to help clients who feel they are doing well, fostering their strengths and maintaining progress. This approach supports growth and resilience at various stages of life, allowing clients to build on their existing well-being and success.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I am specifically skilled at working with ADHD, with about half of the clients I've worked with having this diagnosis. In addition, I work with addiction, having spent two years as an inpatient therapist at a substance abuse treatment facility. I am also a registered play therapist.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is to provide an opportunity to communicate with someone who isn't a friend or family member. It offers a supportive space where individuals can feel heard, build resilience, and learn new coping strategies to navigate challenges. Through this process, clients can gain valuable insights and develop healthier ways of thinking.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
Just like it's hard to learn from a teacher you don't like, it's difficult to be successful in counseling if you don't feel a sense of connectedness to your therapist. A strong therapeutic relationship built on trust and rapport is key to feeling comfortable and open, which allows for deeper progress and personal growth in therapy.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
While the duration of counseling depends on the individual, my general goal for most clients is to complete counseling in 20 sessions, with meetings taking place either weekly or biweekly.
