My Approach to Helping
Hello there, I'm Brian Mitchell. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a client-centered approach to therapy, focusing on trauma and PTSD. I tailor my approach to each client's unique needs and experiences. I am trained in several evidence-based therapies, including CBT, EMDR, and TF-CBT, as well as mindfulness techniques and stress reduction strategies. I work to create a safe and supportive environment for clients to work towards healing and learning coping skills.
As a psychotherapist, I offer a client-centered approach to therapy, which means that I will prioritize the needs and experiences of each client and adjust my approach accordingly. I use a variety of theoretical approaches in my work, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to name a few. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can work towards healing and develop effective coping skills.
I provide therapy to both teens and adults. I am experienced in treating a variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD, as well as providing therapy for LGBTQ individuals and those experiencing life changes. I am also comfortable addressing spiritual aspects that may be part of a client's issues. In your sessions, I work to create a warm and welcoming tone that is non-judgmental and supportive. I establish a safe and comfortable environment where clients feel encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism or judgment. I am goal-oriented and solution-focused, helping clients identify their desired outcomes and work towards achieving them. Overall, my approach is compassionate and focused on empowering clients to make positive changes in their lives.
My attraction to a career as a therapist stemmed from a desire to help marginalized populations find their voice and advocate for their needs. What drives me to do this work is a deep passion for helping others find a better path forward in their lives. I will work with you to create treatment goals that use the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound) framework to help you set achievable objectives. I help to ensure that the goals are specific, clear, and easy to understand, and I will work with you to develop measurable outcomes that help you gauge progress. I will ensure that goals are realistic and attainable, and relevant to your personal circumstances. Overall, my approach to goal setting using SMART goals is focused on supporting you in your journey toward personal growth, recovery, and achievement.
During a client's first visit, they can expect a warm and welcoming environment. I will first introduce myself and get to know my clients by asking them about their reasons for seeking help, their personal background, and their current situation or issues they are facing. I will work to establish a rapport with them, actively listening to their concerns and responding in a supportive and empathic way. I will discuss the confidentiality of the conversations, the limits of confidentiality, and his overall approach to therapy so that the client knows what to expect from future sessions. Overall, the first psychotherapy visit provided the space and time for me and the client to establish a trusting relationship and identify clear therapeutic goals and a plan of action that is tailored to the individual client's needs.
