My Approach to Helping

Are you struggling with addiction, anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), or trauma? Do these challenges impact your daily life and relationships? I specialize in helping adolescents, adults, and couples navigate these issues. Whether you’re a teen facing academic and social pressures, an adult overwhelmed by stress and responsibilities, or a couple dealing with communication breakdowns, I provide a supportive space to heal and grow. Let’s work together to develop strategies that empower you to thrive and achieve lasting well-being.

I believe that everyone has the potential to change and grow, regardless of their past experiences or current struggles. Our mental health issues are often rooted in learned behaviors, which means that with the right support, we can unlearn these behaviors and replace them with healthier ones. As someone who grew up with undiagnosed ADHD, autistic traits, and general anxiety, I understand firsthand the challenges these conditions can present. Through my own therapy, I learned to manage my anxiety and harness the strengths that come with neurodiversity.

My Therapeutic Approach

ADHD:
In my practice, I offer comprehensive support for individuals with ADHD. My approach includes a combination of psychoeducation, behavioral interventions, and executive functioning coaching. I help clients develop effective strategies for time management, organization, and task prioritization. By working closely with schools and workplaces, I advocate for necessary accommodations to ensure my clients can thrive in their academic and professional environments. My goal is to provide practical tools and techniques that enhance focus, productivity, and overall well-being.

Anxiety:
For clients struggling with anxiety, I specialize in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). DBT helps clients develop skills to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, and improve interpersonal effectiveness. MBSR techniques encourage mindfulness and present-moment awareness, which can significantly reduce anxiety symptoms. By integrating these approaches, I empower clients to manage their anxiety, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and enhance their quality of life.

Addiction:
My approach to addiction counseling is compassionate and holistic. I utilize a combination of DBT and motivational interviewing to help clients understand the root causes of their substance use and develop effective strategies for recovery. I focus on relapse prevention, coping skills development, and building a strong support network. By addressing both the psychological and physiological aspects of addiction, I help clients achieve long-term sobriety and a healthier lifestyle.

Couples Counseling:
In couples counseling, I employ evidence-based techniques to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. My approach includes elements of the Gottman Method, which emphasizes building trust and commitment, and emotionally focused therapy (EFT), which focuses on the emotional bond between partners. I create a safe and neutral space for couples to express their feelings and work towards a deeper, more secure connection. My goal is to help couples navigate their challenges and build a resilient, fulfilling relationship.

Childhood Trauma:
For clients dealing with childhood trauma, I provide a trauma-informed care approach that incorporates DBT and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I help clients process their traumatic experiences, develop resilience, and reclaim their sense of safety and control. By creating a supportive and empathetic therapeutic environment, I guide clients through their healing journey and help them build a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Executive Coaching:
My executive coaching services focus on enhancing professional performance and personal growth. I offer strategies for effective time management, leadership development, and stress management. By integrating principles of DBT and mindfulness, I help clients improve their focus, productivity, and work-life balance. My coaching approach is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client, empowering them to achieve their career goals and maintain their mental well-being.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

### My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Growing up, I faced significant challenges, including undiagnosed ADHD, autistic traits, and general anxiety. Additionally, as the adult child of an alcoholic and having experienced multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), I understand firsthand the profound impact these factors can have on one's mental health and daily life. These personal experiences have deeply influenced my approach to therapy and shaped my commitment to supporting others.

My journey through these struggles has given me invaluable insights and empathy. I know the overwhelming feelings of being misunderstood, the frustration of struggling with focus and organization, and the isolation that can accompany mental health issues. Living with an alcoholic parent and enduring ACEs have further taught me about resilience, the importance of a supportive environment, and the long-term effects of childhood trauma.

Through my own process of seeking help and learning to manage my conditions, I have developed practical coping strategies that I now share with my clients. These experiences drive my commitment to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel understood and valued. I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate their own challenges, offering them practical, effective strategies that I have found helpful in my own life.

My background equips me with a deeper understanding of the importance of resilience and the transformative power of therapy. This empathy and firsthand knowledge enable me to support my clients in a more meaningful and impactful way, helping them overcome their struggles and achieve their goals. My personal journey has not only made me a more compassionate therapist but also a stronger advocate for mental health and well-being.
