My Approach to Helping
I work with gay, lesbian, queer and straight couples of all ages to help them get back on track. Sometimes the problem is infidelity, other times it's poor communication, and other times it's old resentments that present as angry dialogue.
I'm trained in the Gottman Method of couples counseling. The Gottman Method is a highly effective evidence-based approach developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. Part of the Gottman Method’s popularity comes from its short-term and structured approach, and its focus on using specific strategies and interventions.
I also work with trauma clients. With those clients, I incorporate EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), as well as elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), mindfulness and somatic experiencing.
EMDR is a specialized form of psychotherapy that’s been scientifically proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. This includes PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), anxiety, depression and panic disorders.
I'm accepting new couples and individual clients. I offer in-person therapy as well as teletherapy. New clients can often be seen within 2-3 days.
At DC Talk Therapy, all 11 of our therapists specialize in working with young adults (20s and 30s) with anxiety, depression and relationship problems. We offer individual counseling, couples therapy and group therapy. (We're currently running an ongoing Young Adult Anxiety Group for those age 27-38, and we may open up a second anxiety group.)
In our practice, we have two therapists who specialize in trauma, a substance abuse specialist, an OCD specialist and a therapist who almost exclusively works with the LGBTQ community.
Since we opened our practice in Washington, D.C., in 2012, we've helped nearly 2,000 people live happier and more fulfilling lives. Our therapists use a variety of therapeutic approaches but primarily use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on modifying maladaptive or distorted thoughts about ourselves or the rest of the world as a way to change resulting feelings and behavior.
Our therapists believe that psychotherapy can be tremendously rewarding, even life-changing. We see therapy as very much a collaborative process, so we ask clients for feedback throughout the process. We want the client's experience to be as valuable as possible.
Our office staff answers the phone live Monday through Friday 9 am-5 pm and they can often schedule you an appointment within 2-3 business days. Also, they can call your insurance company on your behalf to determine your benefits.
