My Approach to Helping

My name is Carlos Velazquez and I am a licensed therapist. I have worked with individuals seeking help for over 14 years. My counseling style is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I believe this combination is highly effective in helping you make a meaningful and sustain change. I enjoy working and helping those who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and or relationship issues.

Let’s work together to finally overcome your fears and negative thoughts that keep you from living your life to the fullest. My best hope is to help you change the way you look at the events in your life, improve your mood and increase your curiosity for life. The field of mental health has traditionally aimed to “change what’s not right."" I believe in “building what is right."" We all have internal strengths that can be built up to boost our resolve, increase optimism, and enjoy life to its fullest. My aim is to help my clients realize that they do not need to change, only their current state or belief from “what’s wrong to what’s right."" By using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Solution Focus approaches, I help clients to change course and move toward achieving behavioral paths that lead to achieving goals and becoming a better you."

During the first therapy session, you can expect to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve from therapy sessions. I may ask questions about the your personal history, current situation, and any symptoms or issues that you may be experiencing. I may also ask about your support system, coping mechanisms, and any previous experiences with therapy. It is important to note that the first therapy session is typically an opportunity for you and I to get a feel for each other to ensure a successful relationship.
