My Approach to Helping
At Starobin Counseling we focus on helping people repair and strengthen their relationships. We regard relationships as central to the therapeutic process. Some challenges in life are purely personal, but most problems express themselves in the intersections people have with other people. Therapy helps people repair their inner selves, often injured by relational ruptures, and learn and practice being in relational health with one another. Therapy helps people hear themselves think, experience feelings, gain new perspectives. We help people recognize and strengthen their own vitality and resiliency so they can unlock their capacity for compassionate and meaningful connections. We are a neurodiversity-affirming, gender-affirming, and culturally aware and sensitive practice.

Specialties at Starobin Counseling include working with neurodivergent and neurotypical children, adolescents, young adults, and adults and their families. Neurodiverse couples therapy is also specialty that we provide. Caron Starobin is advanced certified in RLT (Relational Life Therapy) and in PEERS (Program for the Enrichment and Education of Relational Skills). PCIT and SPACE are specialties Starobin Counseling associates have which help anxious children, adolescents, and young adults by working with the parent-child relationship. Contextual DBT and Contextual Family Therapy are also core specialties Starobin Counseling associates have extensive training in and utilize in their work with clients. We offer several groups to help break down social isolation and empower people to be neurodivergent affirming with themselves and others. Parents Together is a parent support group that offers parents of autistic children, adolescents, and young adults opportunities to enhance coping skills and gain insight and understanding of the emotional impact of autism, time to develop supportive relationships and share resources with other parents, and aims to strengthen the capacity of families to navigate the emotional and practical challenges of raising autistic children, adolescents, and young adults. Siblings Together is a sibling support group that provides a supportive and therapeutic environment for children, adolescents, and young adults who have autistic or neurodivergent siblings. Autistic Adults Support Group for Women and non-binary People is our hybrid in-person and virtual group where autistic women and non-binary people can build meaningful connection that is often hard to find, yet so greatly needed. Participants in our PEERS® social skills groups learn and practice relationship skills with their peers and family members. In individual & family counseling for neurodivergent and neurotypical people, individuals explore their neurodiverse and neurotypical identities and expand their relationship skills and tools for thinking flexibly and making room for differently wired brains. Family members learn to understand relationship dynamics, sustain healthy relational connection with each other, and interact with greater ease and compassion.
