My Approach to Helping
My approach to treatment is integrative, using a psychodynamic approach incorporating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Therapy and mindfulness techniques. I specialize in treating life adjustment and life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and end-of-life passage.
My current areas of interest are neuropsychology via Robert Scaer, Peter Levine and Bessel Van Der Kolk; Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy based on the work of John Bowlby and Carl Rogers, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy developed by Steven C. Hayes.
More Info About My Practice
Currently I am offering teletherapy sessions. I currently treat clients who live in the state of Virginia, in any Virginia locale. Access to our sessions will be through Doxy, a HIPPA-approved, easy to use platform. Many people prefer teletherapy as an alternative to in-person therapy for convenience, flexibility and comfort. It also allows for sessions when clients are away at school, on business, or away from home for other reasons.
I offer in-home therapy for clients who may face barriers to other types of appointments. In-home therapy is typically provided to individuals who have difficulty leaving their homes for psychological and or medical reasons. Many clients who want to address end of life concerns find in-home therapy comforting and most helpful.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Psychotherapy is not easily described in general statements. The techniques used will vary depending upon your goals of treatment, and what is identified as we move through this process together. It will be necessary for you to put forth effort during our sessions and between sessions as well. Psychotherapy has both benefits and risks. Risks sometimes include experiencing uncomfortable feelings such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness. Psychotherapy often requires recalling unpleasant aspects of your history. With this said, psychotherapy also has benefits for those who undertake it. It often leads to a significant reduction in feelings of distress, a better understand of yourself, better relationships with other people and resolution of specific problems.
