My Approach to Helping

Are you struggling with trauma, such as long-term developmental trauma or traumatic events? Have you experienced abuse or neglect that is impacting your well-being? I can help you navigate through these challenges. If your behaviour is causing issues in your life or you're finding it difficult to manage your impulses and maintain healthy relationships, I'm here to support you. Are you experiencing emotional instability, engaging in self-harm, or having suicidal thoughts? Let's work together to find healthier coping mechanisms and restore emotional balance. If substance misuse concerns you or you're facing difficulties with aggression or behavioural issues, I can provide guidance and strategies to address these challenges. You're not alone. It's normal to feel overwhelmed when facing these issues. Contact me, and we can have a conversation before you make any decisions about therapy. Let's talk it through and find the right path toward healing and well-being.

At Glass Oak Psychology, we are dedicated to providing you with the support you need through a team of skilled and highly trained practitioner psychologists. Our commitment to your well-being begins with understanding the diverse backgrounds, training, and experiences of our psychologists, ensuring that you are paired with the professional who possesses the best expertise to address your specific concerns.

Within our team, you will find a number of psychologists specializing in forensic psychology. Their expertise lies in working in secure environments and handling complex presentations, long-term difficulties, developmental trauma, and risky behaviours or thoughts. With invaluable skills gained from exposure to secure settings, they are equipped to assist individuals navigating challenging circumstances, especially those dealing with complex or persistent issues that impact their lives.

Expertise and Experience:
At Glass Oak, all our psychologists have received training in appropriate therapeutic models and pursued extensive academic careers, including doctoral training. Moreover, their years of experience working in various public sectors further enhance their clinical expertise, ensuring effective assistance for you.

Long-Term Commitment to Your Well-being:
We would like to encourage you to view therapy at Glass Oak Psychology as a long-term commitment rather than a quick fix. We prioritize taking the time to understand your unique situation and implementing transformative changes from within to ensure a more sustainable and effective treatment approach.

Therapeutic Models We Utilise:
Our therapy services incorporate several well-established models carefully selected to address many concerns. These models include:

Schema Therapy: Addressing deep-rooted patterns and beliefs contributing to emotional distress and interpersonal difficulties.
Compassion-Focused Therapy: Developing self-compassion and utilizing human motivation to alleviate psychological distress.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: Accepting uncomfortable thoughts and feelings while committing to actions aligned with personal values for enhanced well-being.
Polyvagal Theory: Exploring the connection between the autonomic nervous system, emotions, and social behaviour to promote self-regulation and resilience.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing): Reprocessing distressing memories to address trauma and associated symptoms.
Mindfulness: Cultivating present-moment awareness and acceptance for psychological well-being and stress reduction.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Modifying negative thought patterns and behaviours to alleviate distress and promote positive change.
The Therapy Process:
At Glass Oak Psychology, the therapy process consists of the following stages:

Formulation: We get to know you and your experiences, exploring the origins and triggers of your concerns. This process provides a comprehensive understanding of your unique circumstances, creating a therapeutic "map" that promotes self-understanding. If necessary, we develop a risk or crisis plan to address any potential challenges you may be facing.

Planning: Collaboratively identifying and prioritizing your treatment needs ensures a tailored approach specific to your requirements. Transparent and open communication during this stage ensures you are fully aware of the treatment plan, minimizing surprises.

Therapy: Engaging in therapeutic interventions based on the models and approaches mentioned earlier, our sessions provide a supportive and confidential environment for you to explore your concerns, acquire new coping strategies, and work towards positive change.

Review and Consolidation: As you progress, we discuss gradually reducing the frequency of therapy sessions, transitioning from weekly to biweekly or monthly sessions. This collaborative process ensures your comfort and active involvement in the decision-making.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

I work with a lot of people who experience conflicting thoughts about whether or not to attend therapy. They ask me questions like 'where do we start?' or 'there's too much to work through, theres no point starting'. Once we get to know each other, you can leave that to me. I will find the starting line, and together we will develop the 'path' or the 'map' to figure out how to work our way through. I pride myself on helping those who have experienced a lot of complex and challenging life circumstances, the first step is getting in touch. We can have a phone call to talk through what to expect, and then you can make your decision.
