My Approach to Helping
It is not the easiest thing to ask for help and start therapy. I understand the challenges, hopes, and fears clients face in the process of seeking therapy. My goal is to create a safe atmosphere and trust that will allow my clients to look at underlying issues. I am empathic and use direct feedback. I use interpersonal, psychodynamic, cognitive and strength base therapy. I do believe that the relationship tends to be more important than "technique" and focus on where the client is and what his or her particular needs and goals are. While I work with both women and men from many walks of life, my specialties include men's issues, fatherhood, sports psychology, working with executives, and diversity training. I also co-lead an amazing men's group. A must for all men. I like to do many things that enhance my therapy skills including, writing, and present locally and nationally. I co-edited a book titled, Counseling Fathers, and write and speak in many venues, locally and nationally.

My sessions are 50-55 minutes and I will go at your own pace. I use a strength-based approach focusing on my clients strength. my belief is that we all have strengths and areas of growth. By not only identifying what is wrong, but what is right too, my clients learn to utilize their strengths to work on their challenges and issues.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Therapy works! I have helped many clients change their life. However, for therapy to work well, just like any other relationship, a few basic elements need to be in place. I encourage you to interview a few therapists and see with whom you feel most comfortable. if there is a good fit and trust develops - you will gain a lot from therapy. Honesty, healthy communication, trust, and understanding are important factors that will determine how much you will benefit from therapy. I am an ethical psychologist who put my clients best interest first. If a after a few sessions it is obvious that it is not a good fit I will provide you with other referrals. I am committed for my clients to meet their goals and enhance their lives. I start every new therapy experience with an assessment to learn more about all aspects of the individual or couples I am working with. It allows me to hear my clients stories, life experiences, challenges, and strengths and to set goals and interventions that fits my clients needs.
