My Approach to Helping
Whether you (or your partner) have been in therapy before or this is your first time trying to find the right therapist I'll be happy to spend some time on the phone with you to discuss your decision.
If you've experienced difficulties in relationship, marriage or family; with loss, depression or anxiety you know how painful it is and how hard it can be for others to grasp. These painful feelings can respond to professional help. Throughout our time together I aim to fully understand your experience by listening without judgment, validating painful feelings and then helping you reach beyond what seems possible right now. Focusing on what is most important to you is essential to an effective counseling relationship, and a major factor in getting the most from your individual therapy, marriage therapy or couple counseling sessions.
I have advanced training and extensive experience working with troubled couples, marriages and family relationships. I am a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) and Supervisor for couples, individuals and families. EFT, developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, is a well researched approach that helps partners get to the root cause of what leaves them feeling tentative, distant, disconnected sexually, and alone- and to find a way back in to one another. It is effective therapy for couples who have experienced affairs or other betrayals.
A good fit between client and therapist is highly important to the success of therapy- so I look forward to time with you to answer questions and discuss my approach prior to you scheduling an initial appointment. Our work together is discreet and confidential.
