My Approach to Helping
Motivating yourself to find a therapist is hard. You might be asking yourself, how did I get to this place? Maybe you're afraid that your problems have nothing to do with the past and that you're just selfish, lazy, and unfixable. Or maybe you worry your hopelessness and despair are insurmountable — you're just not the kind of person who is able to change. This is an incredibly painful thought to have about yourself, but often that's where we land in our negative self-talk. Perhaps you think no stranger-therapist could understand this. Yet, some part of you still yearns to have so much more...
Healing begins by being with what isn't working, using less judgment, and the addition of curiosity. This is easier said than done, and takes courage, and practice. In fact, we've likely built walls and weaved important stories that may contradict this way of healing but were necessary to keep us emotionally safe as children. Blending mindfulness, somatic approaches, and creative explorations, we'll honor these walls and stories while safely shifting them into what feels more authentic. Paradoxically your difficult feelings and experiences are the doorways to access and support the resources within yourself.
Consider this metaphor…
In being with what is, we begin to turn on the lights in a dark room. With this illumination, we get to decide if we want to stay in the room, change the furniture around, open a window, or leave the room entirely to explore others.
Let's build a different relationship with your trauma.
Then what?
Ultimately, this process will enhance your ability to get your needs met, make better choices, and move more easily through your shifting experience, and life’s uncertainty. It can support you in feeling safer in yourself and your body. We'd love to be a part of helping you feel more alive and excited about your life.
