My Approach to Helping
I believe everyone has the right to live a peace-filled life, where happiness can take hold and flourish. My focus in therapy is to identify the root causes of suffering in my clients and break down the stored trauma, freeing them from their suffering.
I take the view that we have primarily three aspects to us, our body, mind, and emotions. When emotions are hurt and injured by some trauma, they recede, cry, and even scream out their suffering. This overwhelms the mind, trying to dissociate from the hurt. Often though, the mind cannot suppress the emotions, and the emotions take over in racing thoughts, tormented by various fears and shame. When hurting emotions are not addressed, the pain they carry flows into the body, evidenced by anxiety, tension, headaches, bowel issues, weight gain, and many other ailments.
Addressing emotions directly – getting the story out, often in tears, is the basis of my work. Making sense of it and putting our intellects together to understand this problem, I seek the details of how this trauma entered the person and hooked into them. Trauma happens when a person is overwhelmed, against their will by an action intent on harming them. This hurt holds its place within the psyche by the many walls of protection the mind itself puts up to defend against further harm to painfully tender pain it now is forced to concede to.
However, that pain, specifically the hook that holds it inside the psyche, is a lie told to the mind. Once the lie is identified and isolated, this lie can be nullified with the truth. It turns out that it isn’t the individual who somehow was caught in weakness and is deserving of this pain, it is the lie, the hook, and the poison, working to diminish and nullify that person. The good news is with truth, the lie implodes and the hurt itself is lessened or even nullified.
