My Approach to Helping
My interest and involvement with counseling and human development has been life-long. I earned a Master's in Counseling from Arizona State University (2011) and have completed a number of other professional training programs, both current and ongoing. My approach is goal-oriented and practical to what my clients bring, using various modalities, including biographical work, cognitive-behavioral techniques, trauma-focused therapies, family systems, and brief-focused therapy. I've completed several modules of hypnotherapy training via the Milton H. Erickson Foundation in Phoenix, AZ, and the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA). I've worked with many clients in a wide variety of clinical and community settings. My experience, knowledge, and training are informed by the kaleidoscope of experiences I've had, professionally speaking. I believe counseling is a working partnership designed to maximize healthy self-development. My clients are people who are often in pain or distress because of issues in their lives that seem, at times, too difficult to deal with alone. They're looking for practical solutions to trauma, often from unresolved childhood issues. Some come with relationship concerns; anger, frustration, or even depression are common. Often, I find my clients are sincerely open to change, which is an essential element if therapy is to be productive. Helping them find more meaningful ways of coping is deeply satisfying for me. I believe it is possible for everyone to access hidden resources within that can help to move us in the direction of positive change. I believe that deep inside us, we all want to be healthy and that we all want to live lives that are constructive and satisfying, both for our own personal growth and for our relationships with others. I believe, as a wise philosopher once said, 'If on some day, we find no miracle in our life, we have merely overlooked it.'
