My Approach to Helping

My name is David Rosenblatt, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Chicago Illinois, and working with clients in the Chicagoland area both in person and telehealth. I work with adults and older adults and specialize in depression, anxiety, and trauma, using Eye Movement Desensitization (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Narrative to help my clients feel better about themselves and function better. My approach to therapy is based on the needs of each client I am working with. I use the treatment modalities EMDR, CBT, and Narrative to help me and my client to have a mutual understanding of the reality of the situation and work together on how we will proceed toward healing.

My client population is adults and older adults with depression, anxiety, and trauma with various diagnoses. I help my clients understand the causes of their symptoms and suggest ways to reduce and suggest ways to reduce or alleviate them. I try to help them establish goals for themselves and ways to achieve them. My communication style is compassionate, sympathetic, empathetic, and nonjudgmental. I want to establish rapport ( therapeutic relationship) with my client so there is mutual trust and respect between us.

After I graduated from college and was out in the world for a while I was wondering what I would do for a career. While I was walking in my neighborhood a thought came to me that I should become a social worker. I saw how much people were hurting and wanted to help them. I applied to a school of social work and majored in clinical social work. The rest is history. Once we have established a good therapeutic relationship, I will help you understand the therapeutic process and help you establish what goals you want to accomplish for yourself. I will make suggestions but not impose any goals upon you.

Our first session will be about establishing a therapeutic relationship so I can help you help yourself. I will ask you questions to establish the reasons you are seeking therapy, how you are feeling, and how you are functioning. I will explain the therapeutic process and you can ask questions if you don't understand something or just have a question. Building a therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of psychotherapy.
