My Approach to Helping
Hi, I'm Debbi! My name is Debbi Little, and I am a Licensed Clinical Therapist (LCSW) serving clients via telehealth in the state of Illinois. I have 20+ years of experience working with a diverse population and specializing in the effects of trauma, anxiety, and depression, along with adjusting to major life events and stressors. I utilize mostly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy tailored to each individual to assist them in reaching their therapeutic goals. I believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect and compassion. Although Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the modality I use most frequently, I also believe everyone is unique and, therefore, will work best with an intervention tailored specifically to them. Together we will find the approach or approaches that work best for you.
I have found that my approach works well with most individuals, but especially with survivors of trauma and persons experiencing major life events or transitions such as college, job change, divorce, the death of a loved one, retirement, etc. Like trauma, these transitions can lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety along with self-doubt and issues of self-worth. Together we can improve your life situation and outlook. My communication style is encouraging, non-judgmental, open, and honest. I have been told by many clients that my ability to make them comfortable when sharing the details of their life is one of my best attributes as a therapist.
Initially, I decided to become a therapist to help children suffering from trauma, but this soon turned to helping adults who suffered from unresolved childhood trauma and then anyone in need of improving their mental healthlife situation. I truly enjoy helping others learn, grow and heal. I believe in client-directed therapy, meaning you tell me what you want to achieve, and I will help you get there. Together we will define goals, chart a course of action and track your progress. It is a partnership that comes from developing trust and a connection that allows you to succeed.
We will use the first session to explore your needs, feelings, and expectations. I will ask a lot of questions and listen carefully to your answers so I can fully understand your unique situation. We will also begin building a therapeutic relationship built on trust and respect that will allow you to achieve your goals and improve your current situation.
