My Approach to Helping

We all contain a force that strives for self-realization. When we nurture this force, we find positive ways of existing within and experiencing the world around this. We gain the strength necessary to tolerate stress and conflict. Without support, though, we may adopt unhealthy ways of surviving that directly counter how we wish to be.

I offer a blend of psychotherapy that focuses on self-acceptance and self-discovery as the tools for emotional, behavioral, and social development. I have a deep respect for you and for the struggles that have become the way you learned to survive in the world. I believe in your ability to grow and heal.

It is important that my clients feel understood and seen. I'll meet you where you are, nurturing your awareness of feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. By building insight and getting plenty of support, you can make positive choices, bounce back from conflict, and access your strengths. I work to help clients cope with, manage, and resolve fear, anxiety, anger, guilt, depression, low self-esteem, and shame.

My background in music makes me especially sensitive to the artist's struggles for authenticity and self-confidence. In a sense, I help clients find their "voice" in the areas of emotional impairment. I also understand the challenges of creative blocks and the difficulties of navigating the business world's highs and lows.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

I have talked to so many people who have had negative experiences with prior therapists. Sometimes people feel judged, misunderstood, or just didn't connect with their therapist for one reason or another. This is enough for many to stop looking. And many may blame themselves ultimately for it. But I believe there is something called a "good fit." This doesn't mean that therapy won't be challenging, because you will both be working together to resolve issues and that can be very challenging. But it is very important that you find a therapist that is a good fit for you.

To me, this means:
You feel seen and understood
You feel respected, not pathologized
Your emotional well being is the priority
Personalities go well together
Therapist does not have own agenda

It is also important to trust your inner "gut" feeling about a therapist. A good therapist will check in after first session and subsequently thereafter to make sure a client is feeling good about the therapy process.
