My Approach to Helping
I work with couples and individuals, and specialize in relationship issues, coping with medical illnesses, grief and loss, health behavior and lifestyle changes, life stress and transitions (including marriage, separation and divorce, infertility, work stress, life stage concerns, etc), anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
A supportive and non-judgmental relationship is crucial to any effective individual or couples therapy. In creating a safe place to explore and understand where you might feel stuck, I help you learn new ways to communicate and interact in relationships, cope with life stresses and losses, deal with difficult emotions, and shift behaviors and patterns that may no longer work in your life. I view each person or couple holistically, and provide individualized interventions integrating approaches that are supported by research in order to help you gain insights, learn new communication and coping skills, and ultimately make lasting changes in your life.
I am certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and have advanced training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy (GMT), as well extensive training in health psychology, behavioral medicine, bereavement counseling, child and pediatric psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness based approaches, such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and insight meditation. I have also worked and published in the areas of women's health and ADHD.
