My Approach to Helping
Change is inevitable. Life is full of it. Some changes we seek, others come into our lives unbidden and without warning. All changes, even positive ones, disrupt the way things were and force an adjustment to a different version of life and of ourselves. When the change is one we didn’t choose or want, we can experience a range of emotions like shock, anxiety, numbness, sadness, denial, anger, guilt, helplessness, depression, and yearning. Grief and loss affect our thoughts, behaviors, and physical well-being, including concentration, decision-making, eating, and sleeping.
Clients come to me for many reasons related to grief and loss, including the death of a loved one (including pets), a chronic or significant medical diagnosis, loss of employment or financial changes, the loss of a relationship, and the loss of one's future possible self. These losses can deeply impact one's sense of self, and I provide support and guidance through these difficult times.
I am trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and have advanced training and certification in grief counseling. I use a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, integrating various therapeutic modalities to fit your unique circumstances. I prioritize a collaborative, judgment-free environment, using empathy, humor, and authenticity.
When dealing with grief and loss, the support of a trained, caring professional can help you toward acceptance, resilience, and peace. I am here to assist you on your journey toward healing. Whether grappling with a recent loss or navigating long-term grief, I provide a safe space to explore your feelings, find meaning, and develop tools to move forward.
