My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor for the State of Texas. I work with individuals and families for a wide variety of reasons for seeking services.
I am a cognitive therapist. I believe that the way we think, feel, and behave are all intertwined, and if we can change one of those three, the other two will change.
I work with teenagers up to senior adults. I do Telehealth and can work with many situations including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and other issues. I try to make my sessions comfortable for the client. I have been told I am easy to speak with and I listen well.
My wife and I worked as Houseparents in Children's homes in Georgia and Texas for many years. During this time I saw the need for counselors and I completed my training to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have worked in several settings as a Counselor including for an agency that works with troubled youth and a Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center. I am now doing full-time private practice.
The goal setting is done by the client through discussions about what they want and need and what they are currently capable of obtaining. I focus on progress toward goals week to week.
We will talk about you and your expectations of counseling as well as what brings you to counseling. I also try and let clients get to know me so that they feel more comfortable talking.
