My Approach to Helping

Current space available. Specializing in anxiety disorders and related depression, trauma, PTSD. EMDR is a primary therapy, alongside Mindfulness, CBT, and Narrative therapies or modalities. I do Virtual or Walk and Talk (out walking in nature in the Haymarket, Marshall, or Warrenton, Va. areas). Call me for a free 15-minute consult. I believe listening to your story is primary to healing, so you can be certain that I will hear you and partner with you as we work together. I use more than one approach and tailor these therapies and modalities to your needs. Creatives welcome, I am willing and able to help you thread your creative process into your therapy journey.

More Info About My Practice

Counseling was a mid-life career choice for me, a culmination of 35 years of experience working with people in the arts and various service industries, as well as teaching, and volunteering with both adult and youth populations. If you want a wide, creative, and personal approach, then call me. I think of therapy as a systemic way to help you: manage anxiety, learn meditation, take care of your physical health, treat yourself with kindness, and slow down to examine where you’ve been and where you want to go. In therapy you will learn wellness practices to help sustain your healing once you move forward and out of therapy. I will partner with you to work on your goals, while examining areas needing improvement and building on your strengths.
My first goal is to get to know you. Then together we try to find immediate practical interventions to help stabilize your situation. I take a slow, careful approach to working with trauma and allow a client to unfold at their own pace. With creatively open clients I use poetry, art, writing, photography, and sculpture techniques to help you gain insight. This is not Art Therapy, as I will not interpret your work, but rather will assist you in using your creative process as your own discovery process, much like journaling.
My approach is positive, empathetic, and encouraging. I will help you take an honest look at both your positive and negative life patterns, so that you can begin to strengthen those patterns which are supportive of your goals and of building positive outcomes and relationships in your life.
