My Approach to Helping
Thank you for reading my profile. I am a licensed professional counselor with over 35 years of experience. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1984 with my bachelor's degree, and from Tufts University in 1987 with my master's degree in Counseling Psychology. I see myself as a therapist who guides clients through the difficult journeys we have all struggled with in life. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment in which we can develop a constructive therapeutic relationship to address your goals. I can assist with gaining skills such as communication skills, assertiveness skills, listening skills, and relationship skills. I hope to empower trauma survivors to live healthier lives. I assist women and men with relationship issues, divorce, break-ups, infidelity, grieving losses, and understanding the dynamics that lead us to the decisions we make, We will evaluate thinking patterns that create on-going dysfunctional patterns and ways to change those patterns. I hope you will allow me to assist you on a healthier journey.
More Info About My Practice
I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities, specializing in the use of cognitive behavioral therapy. I tailor the treatment goals to the specific needs of my clients. I provide tools for the client to become more self-reliant and to become their therapist when similar situations arise in the future. The therapeutic environment I provide allows clients to discuss their issues in a confidential, secure, and healing place. I use reflective listening and questioning to reveal unproductive thinking and behaviors. I hope to uncover a client's natural abilities and teach useful skills for regaining emotional health. My approach is supportive, respectful and encouraging.
I am now offering telehealth services, so you do not have to leave home to receive treatment.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Relationships are the fabric of our lives. We model the lessons our early environment has taught us, but sometimes these lessons are dysfunctional. Unfortunately we carry these lessons forward into our adult relationships. Sometimes we do not know what normal is. Sometimes we do not know how to make our relationships healthier. Our lives are created by relationships and our happiness depends on how healthy our relationships are. I guide clients to healthier more satisfying relationships. We work to resolve power struggles that prevent greater intimacy. We evaluate your relationship patterns and identify ways to empower yourself to create healthier patterns. We will review healthy communication skills , conflict resolution, listening skills , ways to forgive.
