My Approach to Helping

Hello and Welcome!

I am so glad you are here! My name is Elizabeth Boom and I have been providing psychotherapy since 2012. My training includes a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Psychology from the University of Guelph, a Masters of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University in Toronto, and extensive professional development including specialized training in EMDR and Brainspotting. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist (Supervisor Qualifying) with the Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (CACFT). Currently I specialize with individuals looking to overcome challenges and grow to reach their full potential. One of my greatest joys is seeing the growth, healing and achievements of my clients. I count it a privilege to be able to walk alongside each person though their challenges.

Sometimes I like to view psychotherapy through the lens of a hike. Consider me, your therapist as a trustworthy guide and companion on the journey. Together we choose where we would like to end up and decide which challenges to face as a team. We get to know each other as we walk side by side. As obstacles arise I will offer a hand up and tools to help us on the trail. I am here to help point you to the path if you feel lost along the way. Hiking can be hard work and sometimes you can wonder if it is worth it. I take delight in encouraging you and providing you a space where you can pause and reflect on the ground you have covered. After hiking up a trail, it is so rewarding to reach the goal; perhaps it is a lookout point that provides a new perspective, or regaining something that was lost, or maybe a new sense of confidence and peace. When the hike comes to an end we can celebrate the journey we were able to take together. Then if you want to hike together again just get in touch and we can go on a new therapeutic adventure.

I provide counselling from a Christian perspective for those who are looking for this approach to therapy. I welcome people of all faiths in my practice.

I provide counselling in English only. However, I am able to understand French and Spanish. Some clients find it helpful to be able to express themselves during therapy in these languages when necessary.

I know it takes courage to reach out and consider something new. Counselling is a collaborative process where we work together to define your goals and work towards them together at your pace.
