My Approach to Helping
I welcome your courage in sharing your challenges with me and believe that we can work together using evidence-based therapy to create change. Our relationship matters to me and I will check in with you frequently about our work. I bring respect, empathy, humor, and authenticity (I'm a real person!) to the therapy room. I often work with body image and eating issues (e.g., food restrictionother), addiction, anxiety & OCD, insomnia, depression, trauma & PTSD, shame, perfectionism, relationship issues and parenting. I am a certified couples' and Level 2 AEDP and IFS therapist. I also use mindfulness, CBT and DBT heavily in my practice.
I draw on evolutionary psychology to understand how our feelings (e.g., anxiety, fear, anger, joy) evolved to protect us and push us to take survival-oriented actions that we may or may not want to take. I use mindfulness to help us gain awareness of feelings and make new choices when needed. I am part-time faculty at Harvard Medical School, where I trained.
I often work with adult professionals as well as adolescents and young adults. I enjoy meditating and spending time in nature — rock-climbing, hiking and cycling. I grew up in Europe in a diverse family and bring a multicultural sensitivity to therapy. I conduct therapy in French and Spanish as well, languages I am fluent in. https:www.dremilymanove.com
