My Approach to Helping
I approach therapy as a means towards choice and personal power. In therapy, we can gain self-knowledge and an accurate understanding of why we’re living as we are. We learn how we’re stuck and why. We can learn our own real purpose and how to achieve a life we really want to live on our own terms. We are often unaware that much of what the world demands may be at odds with our own talents and interests. Using elements of humanistic, existential, depth therapy, and Internal Family Systems, I help people find the relational roots of where they get hung up in repetitive and unsatisfying behaviors and thoughts. Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
Many of us know that we could benefit from having a neutral party to our problems and dilemmas to talk with - sometimes we just need a place to let off steam and other times, we really want to get to the heart of our pain and struggles in life. But there has been a long-standing view that we have to go it alone, that there is strength in being able to "know" what to do at all times. Personally, I believe that if you can really know yourself, you can master yourself and then you don't have to be subject to the whims of the world. In a world in ever-changing flux, it can be difficult to know what is "right" particularly as we struggle to be true to ourselves. Going it alone can leave you blind to what is actually blocking you and having a trusted ally can gently point those areas out. I believe therapy can be just the place to get that kind of clear and helpful guidance. We don't have to go it alone to be strong - strength is knowing who you truly are and being able to stand in the expansive truth of that!
