My Approach to Helping

Major life transitions can be challenging. Whether it’s because of a breakup, death in the family, or the loss of a job, the life you knew no longer exists. In the aftermath, it’s normal to suddenly find yourself overwhelmed by a flood of emotions and unsure what to do next.

I specialize in working with people as they navigate unexpected events so they can come out with a sense of clarity, acceptance, and hope on the other side. My approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, which allows you to move beyond difficult feelings associated with past experiences. My hope is that you gain a new perspective and free yourself from self-defeating thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to life’s ups and downs.

Arriving here and reaching out is a big step, so pause for a moment to feel the pride of choosing therapy. Seeking support takes strength and I’m happy to provide some respite from it all.

More Info About My Practice

With the stigma and lack of access around mental health care, many people of color who need support don’t seek it out. As an African American woman, part of my mission is undoing that stigma. Going to a therapist should be normalized—just like seeing a medical doctor for treating hypertension, diabetes, or the flu. I’m doing my part one client at a time to change people’s perception around therapy.

You’re never too old to change your life. I also believe you shouldn’t live based on what other people think or fear of failure. You don’t want to look back on a life full of “what ifs.”

I moved to New York from the Midwest 20 years ago. I love the diversity of the New York area. As an animal lover, I have a dog who enjoys walking along the Hudson River.

Groups I Work With

I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma after unexpected life events. Through my eclectic approach, clients gain a new perspective and free themselves from self-defeating thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Reframing is powerful. It empowers clients to choose a different way to look at their situation so they can find self compassion, acceptance, and peace.

As an African American woman, I also understand how race and ethnicity play a factor in mental health. My practice offers strategies addressing racial stress and microaggressions. Let’s find ways to respond, heal, and move forward.
