My Approach to Helping
Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Hayes received his BA from the University of Florida, a Master’s degree in mental health counseling from Gannon University, and his Doctorate in Psychology from Wright State University’s School of Professional Psychology. Over the past 22 years, he has worked as a clinical psychologist in a variety of clinical settings, including community mental health, hospitals, and private practice. Dr. Hayes has also worked in college mental health for the past 16 years. His areas of clinical interest include adjustment and relationship concerns, the 'art' of meaning-making and building resilience, multicultural issues, enhancing self-esteem, and identity exploration, as well as specific work with underserved populations, including the deaf and hard of hearing. His goal as a clinician is to assist all individuals in developing a healthy lifestyle and effectively managing conflict and stress. He believes that lasting change comes from self-awareness and self-compassion, which are enhanced through a collaborative therapeutic work relationship that promotes empowerment and respects self-determination.
