My Approach to Helping

I believe that we make the best decisions about our lives with the information and tools that we have in the moment or have survived with; you are the expert of the experiences in your own life. My approach to helping is to establish a joint relationship with whomever is in the room; it is a collaboration where you discover how to change your relationships with those in your life, and have choices about what those possibilities may look like, while opening new directions that may not have been possible before. I believe that we will be on a journey together, where my role is to be an ally to help you address what you believe lies ahead of you, to create a better future. My therapeutic style is to use a variety of approaches that fit you, with a caring space, in helping you integrate whatever you may have difficulty sorting through or have struggled with in the past.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I enjoy working with interracial and intercultural couples; I have also published in this area and consider it a specialty. I am a faculty member of a local university in Sacramento, so my practice is impacted by cutting edge research. I have published in several areas. Cultural diversity is also an interest of mine.

Further, my experience includes: working with couples, individuals, and families with a variety of situations including- premarital work and communication difficulties, LGBT, and more; emotion management; addiction; life transition; grief; parenting; co-parenting; and issues that young adults face. I also have skills helping with anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship management. I am also interested helping those in their work relationships and sibling relationships.

I have worked in variety of settings with those of various backgrounds. I try to match my style to yours.
